# Capability management

> Manage Word and LaTeX capabilities and understand their status labels.

**Capability management** is where you enable and monitor Otterflow's advanced Word and LaTeX integrations.

## What this page does

Each capability has a card that checks its prerequisites, shows its current status, and offers the next action. Use this page before attempting to use an integration.

## Word capability

The Word capability checks whether the installed Word or Microsoft 365 version is compatible, then installs and activates the required integration. For the complete workflow, read [Word integration](/en/document-integrations/word-integration).

## LaTeX capability

The LaTeX capability downloads and starts the local compilation components. Once it reaches a ready state, you can work with LaTeX projects and compilation. For the detailed workflow, read [LaTeX editing and local compilation](/en/document-integrations/latex-and-overleaf).

## Status reference

The capability card uses state labels to tell you what to do:

| Status                              | Meaning                                                     |
| ----------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| Ready                               | The capability is available to use.                         |
| Checking                            | Otterflow is checking the environment.                      |
| Installing or downloading           | Required files or components are being prepared.            |
| Needs upgrade / Upgrade recommended | Update Word or Microsoft 365, then retry.                   |
| Needs attention                     | Follow the specific action shown on the page.               |
| Unable to confirm                   | Otterflow could not determine the environment; retry later. |
| Disabled                            | The capability is not currently active.                     |

Closing and re-enabling a capability triggers another environment check, so it may take longer than the first visible toggle.

## Tips

* Read the status label before changing a system setting.
* An **Unable to confirm** result does not mean Otterflow changed your Office add-in configuration.
* Reopen Word after a successful Word installation when the add-in does not appear immediately.
